Popular Oscar-winning actor Denzel Washington was baptized on Saturday, but he went a step further than that, becoming a licensed minister as well. Washington has never been all that hesitant to talk about his faith in the past so this is just a logical next step for him in his walk with Jesus Christ. Pretty cool to see a popular figure with a massive platform publicly announce his faith in the Lord and that he plans to minister to others and bring glory to God. Maybe that boldness will rub off on others in Hollywood? Let’s hope so.
According to Breitbart News, Washington, 69, was baptized by Archbishop Christopher Bryant at the Kelly Temple in NYC.
“It took a while, but I’m finally here…If [God] can do this for me, there’s nothing He can’t do for you,” Washington went 0n to say at his baptism, according to Bryant. “The sky literally is the limit.”
Bryant then shared a number of photos of himself with the actor in a Facebook post along with a caption that said:

We celebrate the addition of Minister Denzel Washington into the clergy, having received his minister’s license in the Church of God in Christ today, in a truly uplifting moment.
He is dressed that way because, in the same service, he received water baptism,” Bryant added. “Both the baptism and the licensing took place at the Historic Kelly Temple in NYC, a place close to his heart. Denzel Washington attended this church as a child and testified to being filled with the Holy Spirit after visiting another church with actor Robert Townsend in the 80s.
In a recent interview, Washington said the quiet part out loud, admitting that talking about religion and faith within the entertainment industry is a big no-no.
“When you see me, you see the best I could do with what I’ve been given by my lord and savior,” the Gladiator II star stated last month for Esquire. “I’m unafraid.”
Washington went into intimate specifics about his full turn toward God in the lengthy biographical sketch published by the magazine. Clearly now he is happy for his actions to speak just as loudly as his words when it comes to kneeling before Jesus Christ.
Our culture is in sore need of influential figures like Denzel Washington who aren’t afraid to speak about their faith and how much Jesus means to them. People, especially those who are younger, have been brainwashed by progressivism to such a severe degree that they’ve fallen into a pit of confusion over a number of issues. They’ve lost sight of who they are and are turning to pornography and acts of violence to relieve the pressure.
What they desperately need is the gospel of Jesus Christ. And when they hear folks like Denzel talking about the importance of faith, they tend to listen a whole lot better than to the people closest to them.
Pray for Denzel to continue growing in his faith.
