During the 2023 Christmas season, actress Candace Cameron Bure talked on the topic of parenting and instructing children how to live according to God’s Word and how critical such an education is for survival in a fallen, broken world such as ours, and how her own personal Christian faith has helped her to raise her kids the right way. And yes, there is a right way. The Bible commands parents to bring their children up in the admonition of the Lord, teaching and instructing them from His Word often.
And not just teaching them didactically, but also by being a living example.
According to The Christian Tribune, the 47-year-old actress left the Hallmark Channel due to her Christian faith after the network began producing films and television shows that prominently feature homosexual characters and storylines. The Bible condemns homosexuality as a sin, thus, if a Christian is found to be in support of such sexual deviance, they too are guilty of sinning against a holy, righteous God.
Bure then joined the Great American Family Channel where she has been hard at work making content that is faith-based.
Speaking to the Christian Post about her faith and how it informs her parenting, Bure said that there is an ongoing culture war and one of the best ways for Christians to get involved in trying to win it is to parent in a way that fills kids with the right values and faith.
She said, when making that point, “We’re definitely in a time of a culture war, and I think the best thing that any of us can do as parents is to be consistent and that we actually walk our walk and we show it by example and not just talk the talk.”
Continuing, Bure added that the proper way to do that is to actually live it out, to try to be always be acting in the way that the Bible commands so that your children can watch that behavior and lifestyle and internalize it as the proper way to go about life as a Christian.
She then added, “It’s a lot easier said than done because those little eyes are always watching you. Mommy and daddy are the biggest examples in life, so they’re always watching to see what you’re going to do. If you as a parent can walk with consistency and back up your words with your actions, that speaks volumes, and your children will know that; it doesn’t go unnoticed by them ever. That consistency through life will play out, I truly believe that.”

The Christian actress went on to add that she’s also employed the use of Scripture verses and stories to help her drive home the biblical values she wants her children to adopt, ensuring they are consistently surrounded with the truth about how Jesus wants us to live.
Offering an explanation for how she has done that during her parenting journey, Bure said, “I trained my kids up with biblical values, and the Bible is where we started and what we continue to read today. Even when my kids were young, I had the fruit of the Spirit lettered on their walls to remind them of all of the fruit of the Spirit: joy, love, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness, self-control. We talk about those things. The Bible tells us to ‘train up a child in the way they should go and when they are not old, they won’t depart from it.’ I believe in intentional parenting. We taught out of the Bible, and I’m grateful to see that I have adult children today who are all following that road and that path, loving the Lord.”
Then, speaking about her new book club and what values she is teaching through it, Bure said, “These are values that matter. That’s what we’re teaching, and whether you’re a person of faith or not, I think you’re going to really appreciate these books. There isn’t Scripture in the books, but they’re teaching all biblical principles, and that’s what we love. Maybe you come from a different faith background, or maybe you just don’t teach any kind of faith at home, but you want your kids to know good values. That’s what these books are all about, but if you are a Christian and you know the Bible, you know exactly where the sources from.”
Parenthood is a tough gig.
You’re a sinful, imperfect person attempting to raise, inspire, and instruct another sinful, imperfect person how to live according to a perfect God’s Word and Law. Without the power of the Holy Spirit, this task is impossible. Which is why we need to lean on Christ and follow His Word, trusting that He will give us the power and strength to obey His commands, while allowing the Holy Spirit to not only work in our own lives, but in those of our children as well.
