During a recent speech delivered at the National Catholic Prayer Breakfast, Vice President JD Vance revealed to the crowd in attendance that his son was officially baptized into the Roman Catholic Church. Vance is a recent convert himself, though his wife still remains a practicing Hindu.
Kind of an odd mix when it comes to religions in the household. The Bible instructs us not to be unequally yolked, meaning we should not be married to non-Christians as it causes a wide variety of problems.
However, Vance was converted after getting married, so there’s that to consider. Anyway, Vance was extremely proud of his son before going on to provide some critical insight into what it’s like living in a dual-faith household.
“When I think about the deep things, the things that really matter, there was something really amazing that happened to me in November 2024. All my friends and family were there, ” Vance kicked off his speech. “We were gathered together in a great moment of celebration. And of course, I’m talking about when my seven-year-old chose to be baptized in the Christian faith.”
“Ewan is in school right now, so we won’t see this,” the Vice President continued. ” But as amazing as it was to win the election, of course, in November of 2024 and as amazing as it was to know President Trump would become president again, and would get to accomplish so many good things for the American people, the thing that I was most excited about in November of 2024 is that the week after we won the election, my son chose to be baptized in the Christian faith.”
“Now here’s the basic idea and and for those of you, of course, you all mostly are cradle Catholics, I assume, and typically, we do water baptism of infants in the Christian in the Catholic Church, very, very early on,” he elaborated. “But as many of you know, I am part of an interfaith marriage. My wife, she comes to church with us almost every single Sunday. She is not Catholic herself.”
“And so the bargain that we have struck is that we will raise our kids Catholic, but we will let them choose the moment that they want to ultimately become baptized. And that’s terrible sacrilege. Blame the Dominicans, because they’re the ones who came up with this,” he humorously stated during the address. “Uh, but a seven-year-old elected to become baptized, and it was the proudest moment, maybe, that I’ve ever had as a father.”

“He took it very seriously, and he wanted to know what are the right things to say now, what do I need to do? What does this mean? Why is this important? And it was an amazing thing for me to see my seven-year-old working through these things, himself, and when I talk about the deep things, the important things, that’s what I’m talking about,” the vice president continued.
A child who is that interested in baptism and faith shows the Holy Spirit has been at work in his heart, drawing him to the Savior, Jesus Christ. Vance is doing all the right things by prioritizing his faith and family. Despite his political obligations, If he continues to do this, he will be a well rounded leader who is grounded in solid morals, making him an effective leader for the nation later down the road should he choose to make a run for the White House.
